USA Judge Issues Injunction To Protect Free Speech On Social Media Platforms

USA Judge Issues Injunction To Protect Free Speech On Social Media Platforms

While we were all enjoying the fireworks on the 4th of July a significant development that could have profound implications for the relationship between the government and social media platforms was unfolding in the courts. A federal judge has issued a preliminary injunction restraining key agencies and officials of the Biden administration from engaging with tech companies in matters related to the suppression of protected speech. This ruling was initiated in response to a lawsuit brought forth by Republican attorneys general from Louisiana and Missouri and marks a pivotal moment in the fight for free speech.

This legal action was prompted by allegations that government officials had overstepped their boundaries by urging social media platforms to address posts that could incite vaccine hesitancy during the COVID-19 pandemic or influence elections.

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic the battle for free speech intensified as governments and social media platforms grappled with the challenge of moderating content related to the origins of covid, the vaccine, masks, lockdowns, and other related information. While many platforms succumbed to the pressure to censor information at the behest of the government, one platform stood firm in its commitment to freedom of speech: Gab.

Gab became a haven for individuals, including many doctors and medical professionals, seeking an outlet to express their opinions without fear of censorship. As COVID-related discussions flooded the digital landscape, Gab emerged as a crucial platform where diverse perspectives could be shared, debated, and challenged openly.

During the pandemic various external entities, including government officials, the media, and advocacy groups, exerted immense pressure on social media platforms to censor COVID-related content. Gab steadfastly resisted such pressure, choosing instead to allow the free exchange of information and ideas to flourish. This unwavering commitment to free speech distinguished Gab from other platforms that succumbed to external influences, thus positioning itself as a beacon of liberty and open dialogue.

Thankfully we now have a promising ruling on the subject of the government demanding private social media companies censor content on their platforms. On Independence Day District Judge Terry A. Doughty granted an injunction effectively preventing multiple federal agencies and top officials from pressuring social media companies to remove or suppress content that contains protected free speech on their platforms. The injunction also prohibits these officials from flagging such content or influencing the companies’ content moderation guidelines.

It further restricts their involvement with entities like the Virality Project, previously known as the Election Integrity Partnership, and the Stanford Internet Observatory, which have been accused of exerting censorship pressure on social media platforms. The Stanford Internet Observatory in particular has repeatedly targeted Gab with this strategy in the past and we have stood our ground against their demands for censorship.

This preliminary injunction carries substantial implications for the First Amendment, signaling a potential disruption to the longstanding collaboration between governments and social media companies in censoring Americans’ speech. Judge Doughty’s order imposes constraints on executive agencies, including the Department of Justice, State Department, Department of Health and Human Services, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

While the final ruling is still pending, Judge Doughty’s preliminary injunction suggests his inclination to favor the arguments presented by the plaintiffs. In his opinion, he stated that the evidence provided demonstrates a concerted effort by the defendants to suppress speech based on its content. Comparing the United States government’s actions to an Orwellian “Ministry of Truth” during the COVID-19 pandemic, Judge Doughty expressed his lack of persuasion by the defendants’ arguments.

The opinion also highlights the gravity of the case suggesting that if the allegations made by the plaintiffs are true this could be one of the most significant attacks on free speech in the history of the United States, as the federal government and the defendants are accused of flagrantly disregarding the First Amendment’s protection of free speech.

Judge Doughty’s order does permit certain exemptions, allowing communications related to national security threats, criminal activities, or voter suppression. The Biden administration has denied the claims of collusion in censoring Americans.

This lawsuit specifically targets the federal government’s role in content censorship on social media, in contrast to previous complaints that primarily focused on the actions of tech companies themselves. Moreover, the injunction extends beyond restraining government-technology company communications and also prevents collaboration between government agencies and academic groups dedicated to studying social media, including the Election Integrity Partnership.

As 2023 unfolds, it is becoming a significant year for free speech in the United States. The Supreme Court has issued several decisions that bear implications for free speech, including a recent ruling that established a higher threshold for punishing speech as a “true threat.”

Governments should not collude with tech companies to suppress protected speech. This ruling highlights the importance of platforms like Gab, which prioritize the preservation of free speech and offer an alternative to mainstream social media platforms that have faced criticism for their content moderation practices. At Gab we have been standing our ground against government censorship and pressure from outside academic groups for years. It’s great to finally have a ruling on the side of our actions and on the side of free speech.

Living in a Coup with Massive Election Rigging & War

Living in a Coup with Massive Election Rigging & War – Martin Armstrong

By Greg Hunter’s USAWatchdog.com

Legendary financial and geopolitical cycle analyst Martin Armstrong was forecasting “chaos” in 2023, and that’s exactly what we got.  His cycle work says don’t look for it to get better anytime soon.  Armstrong explains, “We are in the midst of a coup.  We have all these people who have been neocons for 30 years.  Even Ron Paul said recently that the neocons have been waging war for 30 years and have not won a one single one.  This is what they live for.  Look at the clip of Lindsey Graham saying this is the best money we ever spent killing Russians.  How can you take pleasure in that statement that this is the best money we ever spent killing Russians.  This is not defense.  These are the words of a psychopath in my mind. . . . They are not about to accept anybody who is going to be against war.  The neocons are in full control of the government—period.  We are living in the time of a coup.  The United States is not the free country you thought it was. . . .”

Armstrong also predicts that the neocons will rig the 2024 election so Biden (or some other neocon) gets a second term.  Is there any way to stop this election rigging and fraud in 2024?  Armstrong says, “I don’t believe so.  Our computers show that holy hell breaks loose starting in 2025.  I think the problem will be the cheating will be in everybody’s face this time.”

Armstrong also says the neocons will try to start a war before the 2024 election so Biden will win because a wartime president has never lost an election.  Armstrong says the cheating will be necessary because the real poll numbers for Biden are in the single digits and not the 40% approval ratings the Lying Legacy Media tells you.  Armstrong contends Biden’s approval number is still stuck at 9.5% with his deadly accurate Socrates computer program, but the big reason for Biden and his crew to worry is the real inflation number.  Armstrong says, “Inflation is subsiding a little bit, but it is basically still over 26%.”

Armstrong says Biden’s approval numbers are so low and inflation is so high that they have to have war with Russia.  War is the reason they had to remove Trump out of the White House because Trump was against constant war.  Armstrong adds, “No way they are going to allow a free election.  It you think the CIA cannot rig the vote, I don’t know what planet you live on.”

Don’t expect Fed Head Jay Powell to lower interest rates.  It will be just the opposite.  Armstrong explains, “What is Powell looking at?  War is the number one cause of inflation.  He can’t say because you people are dumping all this money into Ukraine, inflation is only going to go higher because then he is criticizing the government.  So, he just says he’s looking at ‘international considerations.’  Look what the Vietnam war did.  It broke the back of Bretton Woods.  War is always the number one problem.  The neocons only care about winning, and they do not care about the country.  The do not care about your 401-k or your retirement.  They could care less.”

In closing, Armstrong warns, “Russia is like a wild animal, and if it is cornered, it will attack.”  This means the whole thing in Ukraine could go nuclear if Russia is pushed into a corner.  And what about all that debt the western world has built up?  Armstrong says, “They intend to default on all the sovereign debt. . . .I don’t see this succeeding.  I think it’s all going to collapse.  The reason why they are doing this is they realize they are losing power.  They feel it slipping out of their fingers.  The more that happens, the more they become aggressive.  That’s what this is all about.”

There is much more in the 53-minute interview.

GAB Social Media Site Defies USA Government

EXCLUSIVE: Congress Enlists GAO for “Domestic Extremist” Study on Social Media and Gaming Platforms

Gab News can exclusively report that members of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Homeland Security have requested that the Government Accountability Office (GAO) examine the utilization of social media and gaming platforms by “domestic extremists.”

Earlier this week Gab received an email from the GAO asking us to take part in the study and provide information on our business and users. Gab will not be participating in this study and will not be providing any information to the GAO. Our policies on First Amendment-protected speech are well known and are the industry standard for free speech online. We will not scapegoat our users or undermine the operation of our business to demonize normal Americans who have serious concerns with the direction of the nation and our leaders.

Our response to the GAO was as follows:

The most violent domestic extremist content we see on the Internet comes from the President of the United States, who is funding a meat grinder in Ukraine, cheering the burning of American cities in 2020, jailing peaceful protestors from January 6th, and openly advocating child genital mutilation from his Twitter account. We suggest you start there. Otherwise, we’re not interested in your study.

In the interest of transparency we will share the full request below so the public is aware of how their tax dollars are being spent.

Good afternoon,

We are reaching out from the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO). GAO is an independent, non-partisan agency that evaluates federal programs for the U.S. Congress.

Members of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Homeland Security requested that GAO examine domestic violent extremists’ use of social media and gaming platforms. As part of our work, we are interested in hearing from a range of social media and gaming companies about their platforms, including community guidelines, and procedures for coordinating with external stakeholders if applicable.

We have selected Gab as part of our study. We would appreciate receiving your perspectives by responding to the questions below. Please note that we will not attribute information to any company representative by name in our public report. If we use information received from Gab in our report, we will send those statements to you for review, including to determine whether you would like each statement to appear as “representatives of Gab” or “representatives of a social media company.”

Your responses are valuable in helping us inform the U.S. Congress about online platforms’ approaches to handling violent extremist content, and we really appreciate your time.

Please provide written responses by replying to this email by Thursday, July 13.

1.    Please provide an overview of Gab’s goals as a platform and how it generates its revenue (e.g. user fees, advertising, data sales).

2.    In its Terms of Service, Gab states that its policy is “to allow all speech which is permitted by the First Amendment and to disallow all speech which is not permitted by the First Amendment,” however the terms do not explicitly mention any policies related to violent extremist content. To what extent does Gab have policies or take action to limit the spread of violent extremist content that may appear on the platform and is not illegal under U.S. law? How, if at all, does Gab define this type of content?

3.    Other than Section 230 (47 U.S.C. § 230) and policies related to child sexual abuse material, what laws and regulations, if any, does Gab consider in making decisions about domestic violent extremism that may appear on the platform?

4.    What strategies and tools, if any, does Gab use to identify and mitigate domestic violent extremist content (e.g. automated or human reviews, user reporting)?

a.    What redress mechanisms, if any, exist for users who believe their speech has been unfairly or inappropriately stifled?

5.    What challenges, if any, does Gab face in identifying and mitigating domestic violent extremist content?

6.    To the extent that Gab becomes aware of a potential threat on its platform, what actions, if any, does Gab take in response?

7.    To what extent does Gab work with federal, state, or local agencies on issues related to domestic violent extremist content (e.g. notifying law enforcement of threats, partnerships or coordination, information-sharing)?

a.    Please describe the nature of the coordination, if any, including which agencies you work with.

8.    What, if anything, would you like federal agencies to know or do related to addressing domestic violent extremism on social media and gaming platforms?

Thank you in advance for assisting us with our work. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Regards,

GAO Social Media Study team

Gab.com Social media Refuses To Comply With Irish “Hate Speech” and “Anti-Prayer Zone Christian Laws

Gab.com Refuses To Comply With Irish “Hate Speech” and “Anti-Prayer Zone” Laws

Part of Gab’s mission is to export the First Amendment to the entire world. To do this we regularly must tell foreign governments to pound sand when they make requests for user data and demand that we censor content that is protected by the First Amendment.

Each time our answer is the same: get lost.

Recently there has been a rise in “hate speech” legislation popping up all around the world as governments scramble to prevent people from speaking freely about being replaced and ruled in their home countries by foreigners who don’t share their values. Unfortunately these “hate speech” laws are not only native to foreign countries without the protections of the First Amendment, but as we’ve seen recently they are also happening at the behest of the donor class in the United States in places like Florida.

Let me make one thing very clear: Gab firmly stands against any attempts by the Irish government, or any foreign government for that matter, to enforce censorship or engage in doxing of Irish users.

The Irish Criminal Justice (Incitement to Violence or Hatred and Hate Offences) Act 2022 represents an update to the existing 1989 law. The rationale behind this update stems from the government’s priority to erode the freedom of the majority of their citizens in exchange for protecting the fragile feelings of marginalized communities, including individuals of different races, religions, persons with disabilities, and those identifying as LGBTQ.

The updated legislation aims to address so-called “hate crimes,” criminalize the denial or trivialization of genocide, and extend protections to encompass gender identity and disability.

Minister for Justice Helen McEntee, the bill’s proponent, has responded to claims that speech would be curtailed. She emphasizes the distinction between “hate speech” and freedom of speech, with the former intended to “silence and instill fear.”

The new law will introduce specific measures to combat hate crimes, defining them as intentional or reckless communication and behavior likely to incite violence or hatred. Penalties for hate crimes could reach up to five years of imprisonment. Victims targeted due to prejudice based on age, ability, ethnicity, religion, nationality, sexual orientation, or gender will benefit from enhanced protection. Straight White Christians need not apply.

The legislation will facilitate the prosecution of hate crimes by allowing prosecutors to rely on the use of hostile slurs, gestures, or symbols as evidence. However, critics express concerns that these changes may lead to the censorship of politically incorrect views, including those pertaining to “trans rights.”

The Prohibition of Incitement to Hatred Act, enacted in 1989, criminalizes the communication of threatening, abusive, or insulting material likely to incite hatred against a group of people. However, individuals can currently defend themselves against charges by claiming they did not intend to promote hatred, based on their lack of knowledge or reason to suspect the content’s nature. The new law changes this defense, making individuals liable for hate crimes even if they claim lack of intent.

Unfortunately things get even worse for Christians in Ireland. Other legislation seeks to establish designated zones across Ireland where prayer is prohibited, as depicted in the accompanying map. The proposed legislation, often referred to as the “anti-prayer zone” law, seeks to create designated areas where public prayer would be prohibited.

"Anyone repeatedly protesting outside medical centres that provide abortions could face a €2,500 fine or six months in prison. The new laws are aimed at clamping down on anyone protesting outside or close to medical facilities which provide terminations of pregnancy. The proposals will see a 100-metre buffer zone imposed outside abortion clinics, within which protests impeding access or attempts to influence a woman’s decision to have an abortion will be outlawed."

Gab is committed to being a refuge for anonymous free speech in Ireland. We welcome our Irish friends to speak freely on our platform. We will not bend to any demands from your government to censor free speech or dox anyone who is engaged in it on our platform. If you’re Irish and on Gab we are exporting the First Amendment to you. We will do everything in our power to subvert these draconian laws by exporting the First Amendment to Ireland, as is our right under our Constitution.

Culture is Downstream from Commerce: The Importance of Conscious Consumerism

Culture is Downstream from Commerce: The Importance of Conscious Consumerism

Our purchasing decisions have massive implications beyond simply satisfying our immediate needs or desires. When we buy a product or support a business we inadvertently contribute to the values and principles these businesses uphold. This in turn influences the culture which then influences political action in our society.

Recently we’ve seen tremendous success with boycotting woke corporations who shove degenerate propaganda in our faces. A movement of conscious consumers who vote with their wallets is rising up and becoming the driving force behind the formation of a parallel economy and culture. If you are serious about enacting tangible change and very real financial consequences to our enemies you need to start thinking less about rigged political theatre and more about conscious commerce.

Over the past decade a growing number of people have become increasingly aware of the impact their consumption habits have on society, culture, politics, and the upholding of their personal values. This awakening has given rise to the concept of conscious consumerism, which involves making intentional purchasing choices based on ethical, social, religious, and cultural considerations.

Advertising dollars, especially for large well established brands, are less about selling products and services and more about selling ideas. Bud Light doesn’t need to run ads. You know what Bud Light is. Everyone knows what Bud Light is. So what, if not Bud Light, are Bud Light ads actually selling? If you are paying attention you know the answer: transgenderism. We see how our conscious consumer response to that sales pitched worked out for them.

It’s important to remember that it is not enough to abstain from supporting woke corporations or organizations that undermine our values. We must actively redirect our purchasing power towards those who champion our values. By consciously supporting businesses and people who align with our principles we can send a powerful message that resonates far beyond our individual transactions. Our collective actions can and will shape the culture and encourage a shift towards a more values-driven parallel economy.

In other words: if politics is downstream from culture, culture is downstream from commerce. This has always been the case.

At the heart of Roman society lay a bustling and vibrant hub that played a pivotal role in shaping their culture and politics—the marketplace. The Roman marketplace, or “forum,” was much more than a mere commercial space; it was the epicenter of public life, where ideas, trade, and power converged. The forum was where commerce, culture, and politics intertwined. As a bustling center of trade, it attracted people from all corners of the empire and fostered economic growth. Beyond its commercial significance, the forum served as a social and intellectual hub, promoting dialogue and exchange of ideas. It also held immense political power as the site of important administrative buildings and public addresses.

Like the Roman forum, social media platforms bring together a diverse range of voices and perspectives. People from different countries, cultures, and backgrounds converge on social media, sharing their thoughts, opinions, and experiences. Just as the Roman forum provided a space for dialogue, discourse and commerce, social media facilitates conversations on a global scale, allowing individuals to engage in discussions, debates, and even virtual protests.

Thanks to the internet it has become easier than ever to find businesses and entrepreneurs who share our values. Platforms like Gab, which are dedicated to building a parallel economy, allow us to tap into a network of like-minded organizations and people who can recommend trustworthy and value-aligned businesses while boycotting those who oppose them.

While large corporations often dominate the market it is essential not to overlook the importance of supporting small local businesses. These businesses often have a closer connection to their communities and are more likely to share their customers’ values. By choosing to buy from local artisans, independent stores, and community-based initiatives, we contribute to the resilience of our local economies while supporting people and causes we believe in.

Unfortunately in many areas the reverse is also true. Many small businesses virtue signal with rainbow flags, black lives matter flags, and other regime-approved symbols. This makes it easy for us to mark and avoid those local businesses and instead shift our commerce to the local business owners who share our values.

Conscious consumerism in the parallel economy has the potential to create a ripple effect that extends beyond the realm of commerce. By actively supporting businesses that align with our values we not only provide them with the resources to thrive but also inspire others to follow suit. As more people redirect their purchasing power towards value-aligned businesses and causes, it encourages the growth and emergence of businesses that prioritize our values. This is far more productive than wasting our time and energy following political sideshows.

We need to recognize the power we hold as consumers and seize the opportunity to put our money where our values are. By doing this we can shape a future where our purchasing decisions reflect our deepest convictions and support the causes that truly matter.

The next time you reach for your wallet, remember that your choices have the potential to shape the world. Choose wisely, and let your purchasing power become a force for positive transformation and the growth of a parallel economy.
