Regime Change with Professor Patrick Deneen on the Irreverend: Faith and Current Affairs

Liberalism has failed and its quasi-religious commitments are becoming more and more obvious to those affected by its deficiencies. There may come a time in the near future when liberalism's discontents rise up and demand a truly revolutionary change of regime. The Rev'd Dr Jamie Franklin sits down with Professor of Political Science at the University of Notre Dame and author of Why Liberalism Failed and the new work Regime Change: Towards a PostLiberal Future Patrick Deneen for a discussion on the failings of liberalism and the prospect of a complete overturning of the liberal order to be replaced by a postliberal regime that orders society according to a common religious vision of the good. We very much hope you enjoy this most crucial conversation. 'We’ve all been watching the longest-running show of modern times. But it might soon be all over'

Neil Oliver: We’ve all been watching the longest-running show of modern times.
But soon the show might soon be over, as more and more of the audience,
especially in the cheap seats, are becoming restless, aware of how uncomfortable their seats are.

Gab Stands Firm Against Censorship Demand From The New Zealand Government

Gab Stands Firm Against Censorship Demand From The New Zealand Government

We want to keep you informed about an important development involving Gab and its commitment to preserving the principles of free speech and open discourse. Our platform, which is based in the United States, has recently received a censorship demand from a foreign country – New Zealand. We feel it is our responsibility to share this news with you, as transparency is crucial in upholding the values we hold dear. As many of you already know we regularly turn down censorship demands from foreign governments including France, Germany, and the UK among others.

First and foremost it’s essential to understand that Gab is situated in the United States, where governmental interference with political speech is categorically prohibited. Our platform benefits from the robust protection of U.S. constitutional law, which empowers us to make decisions about the content we host without external influence. Regardless of how offensive certain content may be, we firmly stand behind the principles of free expression.

Our commitment to these principles means that we do not censor lawful content for any reason, and we do not yield to orders from foreign nations that attempt to curtail this fundamental right. It is worth reiterating that Gab’s operations are entirely based in the United States, and we have no presence, verification, establishment, or intention to hire personnel in New Zealand.

Addressing the specific content in question, we wish to clarify a significant point. Contrary to the allegations made in the recent letter, Gab does not actually host the content itself. Instead, we provide a hyperlink that serves as a reference to content hosted elsewhere on the Internet. This hyperlink, by design, could potentially lead to any content, contingent on the decisions made by the webhost on the other end.

It has come to our attention that New Zealand is attempting to achieve a particular outcome through indirect means. It appears that the content they seek to remove is self-hosted by a third party, leading to the attempt to erase any reference to it by demanding the removal of a hyperlink posted by a Gab user. This leads us to believe that the original author is non-responsive to their requests, leading to an attempt to exert control over our platform as an alternative avenue.

We want to assure you that we will not comply with this request to remove the link. We stand firm in our commitment to free speech and will not be coerced into suppressing content or stifling open discussion. Any attempt to pressure Gab, regardless of its source, will be met with the same unwavering stance.

In conclusion, we acknowledge that New Zealand has the right to voice its concerns and make decisions for its citizens. However, we believe that respecting the principles of free speech and the values that underpin open dialogue is of utmost importance. Whether New Zealand chooses to align itself with those who have attempted to undermine these values is a matter for them to decide.

Thank you for being a part of the Gab community. Your support is essential as we navigate these challenges and continue to champion the ideals of free expression and open discourse.

Sincerely,

Andrew Torba

Free Speech Wins: Research Study Shocks Academics by Revealing Gab’s Edge Over Facebook

Free Speech Wins: Research Study Shocks Academics by Revealing Gab’s Edge Over Facebook

In the world of social media the battle between preserving free speech and maintaining a “civil online environment” has been a subject of intense debate for years. Traditional platforms like Facebook have taken a heavily censored approach, while alternative platforms like Gab.com have positioned ourselves as champions of free speech. Recent academic research has shed light on the impact of these differing approaches, revealing surprising results that challenges preconceived notions about Gab.

newly published study out of the University of Naples Federico II, in Naples, Italy compared the discussion environments on Gab and Facebook regarding topics such as the vaccine and the and the covid pandemic. Researchers were taken aback by what they discovered. The prevailing assumption that Gab served as an “extremist and conspiratorial platform” was dispelled, replaced by a more nuanced understanding of its role in fostering open discourse and productive debate.

Gab has often been unfairly criticized and labeled as a “hotbed for extremist views” by the mainstream media, but what these researchers found was that Gab is emerging as a surprising contender in the realm of constructive conversation online. The study highlighted that, contrary to expectations, Gab’s environment was less polarized and more receptive to the exchange of differing opinions compared to Facebook. While mainstream perception has often pigeonholed Gab as a space solely for radical ideologies, the research showed that it was evolving into a platform where information sources and diverse worldviews could be shared and discussed.

“Our analysis shows the emergence of Gab as a space for comparison and sharing of information sources and differing worldviews that is lacking on Facebook. Gab claims to promote freedom of speech and provide an environment where users can express their opinions without fear of being censored or banned. on Gab, the idea of being able to express a position (albeit controversial and not widely shared by public opinion) with a users’ audience, who probably share that same position and are more prone to confrontation than to attack, generates a discussion environment that is less polarized and more open to the exchange of opinions.“

The researchers’ initial assumptions about Gab being “radical, sectarian, or conspiratorial” were shattered as they delved deeper into the platform’s dynamics. Instead of harboring divisive discussions, Gab proved to be a space that encouraged structured and impactful debates. In contrast, Facebook, once seen as a hub for connecting friends and family, was found to have transformed into a tool for disseminating regime propaganda during the pandemic.

One of the most significant takeaways from the study is the role that free speech plays in shaping the quality of discourse. Gab’s commitment to allowing a wide range of viewpoints, however controversial they might be, appeared to contribute to the platform’s potential for constructive conversations. This stands in stark contrast to Facebook’s heavily censored approach, where discussions could be stifled and differing opinions suppressed, leading to an environment that could inadvertently fuel polarization.

The findings bring forth a crucial question: can platforms that prioritize free speech offer a more conducive space for productive debates and meaningful interactions? The study suggests that Gab’s commitment to an open exchange of ideas empowers users to engage in discussions that challenge their own perspectives and contribute to the broader understanding of complex issues.

In an era where online discourse often devolves into echo chambers and misinformation, platforms like Gab present an alternative that will continue reshape the way we engage with differing viewpoints. The study underscores the importance of reevaluating preconceived notions about certain platforms and acknowledging the complexities of their roles in our digital landscape.

Regardless of your background, beliefs, or opinions, Gab provides a space where you can share your thoughts openly and connect with others who share your passions or challenge your views. Our community–and this new study– are a testament to the incredible range of perspectives that can thrive in an environment of unrestricted discourse.

Gab stands as a resolute symbol of the potency inherent in unrestricted speech and unfettered discourse. I extend a heartfelt invitation for you to become an integral part of our flourishing community, where your voice holds the potential to enrich the intricate wonder of worldwide viewpoints, innovative concepts, and profound insights.

Gold Currency Is No Surprise | Alasdair Macleod

Almost without doubt" will the strain in the banking system cause further bank failures
this year, says Alasdair Macleod, Head of Research at GoldMoney. The authorities in the
West are likely to try to protect the status quo, but it's not going to work, he forecasts.
As the financial system shows more cracks, officials will choose to sacrifice the currency
rather than the system. At the same time, more signs show that the BRICS, joined by the
Middle East, are
going to adopt a currency based on gold.

Hancock on the Barbie Bandwagon

The latest episode from CofE revs with a difference Jamie Franklin and Daniel French.
