The ConDem regime has put aside more money for the Afghanistan war than for university education for British kids, and the new increase in tuition fees means that our youth face the highest cost of education in the world.

According to an analysis of the cost of the Afghanistan war published last year, the direct military cost of that conflict was in excess of £12 billion.

In the spending review cuts announced by Chancellor George Osborne, the higher education budget was cut from £7.1 billion to £4.2 billion.

The practical effect of this cut has now come home to roost. Universities have been granted the right to unilaterally increase tuition fees up to £9,000 per year. Fees are currently £3,290 a year.

This means that 75 percent of students will see the cost of a university education rocket. The hardest hit will be the middle classes, who will pay up to six times more for a degree than before.

The increase in fees means that British kids will now be saddled with a personal liability which is the highest individual education debt in the world.

Furthermore, the total bill, plus interest, will dog young people for most of their working lives, with many paying off the fees well into their 50s, an analysis has shown.

According to the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS), universities would be free to charge less than £6,000 a year, but are extremely unlikely to do so as on average, they would need to charge £7,000 a year just to replace the lost income from teaching grants.

“Overall, the total amount of upfront support is more generous than the Browne recommendations for student with household incomes below £37,500, and less generous for students with household incomes above this,” the IFS report said.

In addition, changes to the way in which loan repayments are calculated will “significantly increase the administrative burden of applying for and administering loans,” the IFS continued.

“In particular, it is hard to justify why students from households with incomes of £42,600 should face larger debts than all other students doing similar priced courses,” that body concluded.

In real terms, the ConDem budget cuts will mean that undergraduates will be saddled with debts of up to £43,500 each, which will rise far higher with interest charges over the years.

For example, a graduate with a debt of £30,000 who goes on to earn in excess of £45,000 will have to pay back more than £2,000 every year for 30 years, while a sliding scale based on income will apply to graduates earning less.

This means that most will be repaying debt well into their well into their 50s.

Meanwhile, other figures show the £12 billion spent on the war in Afghanistan does not include the nearly £1 billion spent in foreign aid given to Afghanistan to “rebuild” that nation after it was destroyed by the Labour-Tory warmongers in the first place.

Other hidden costs of the war include support for injured troops, veterans and the families of soldiers killed in action. Figures from the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme (AFCS) show an increase in claims from £1.27 million in 2001 to £30.2 million in 2008.

The awards come with further "guaranteed income payments" which will cost a further £100 million.

The spending cuts announced by the ConDem regime are set to plunge Britain into its greatest jobs crisis in modern history and will see more unemployed than even during the Great Depression, according to estimates produced by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).

The CIPD said the cuts, estimated by Tory Chancellor George Osborne to cause 500,000 public service job losses, will have a far greater residual impact throughout the economy.

According to CIPD chief economic adviser, Dr John Philpott, the “full impact of the Coalition Government’s planned fiscal tightening has been understated.”

He estimated that the private sector will be hit harder by the cuts in the public sector and that in excess of 1.6 million jobs will be lost in both sectors.

Furthermore, Dr Philpott said, the CIPD estimates that the real number of jobs to be lost in the public sector will be around 725,000.

As earlier predicted by the British National Party, the job losses will not be confined to the public sector. Many companies depend on state contracts for their staple diet and cutbacks in the public sector invariably impact the private sector as well.

The CIPD has predicted that the total number of jobs which will be lost in the private sector due “directly and indirectly from the cuts” will be of the order of 650,000.

To make matters worse, the CIPD has said that it believes that an additional quarter of a million jobs will be lost as result of the VAT increase, which is due to take effect in January 2011.

According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the number of unemployed males reached 1.44 million in August 2010, and the number of unemployed females reached 1.01 million in the same period, making a grand total of 2.45 million.

In addition, the number of people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) increased by 5,300 between August and September 2010 to reach 1.47 million.

This is the second consecutive monthly increase in the number of claimants, the ONS said.  The increase in the total claimant count was mainly due to a rise of 4,200 in the number of female claimants to reach 431,000. The number of male claimants increased by 1,100 to reach 1.04 million. 

However, long-term unemployment is far worse than the official figures show. The official labour market statistics show that in September, “only” 4,560 people have been continuously out of work for five years, but a recent analysis of JSA figures show that the Department of Work and Pensions’ benefit database shows 183,000 have claimed JSA for three out of the past five years. Seventy-six thousand have claimed for five of the last seven, and 29,000 for eight out of the last nine years.

The figures differ because the DWP’s database measures people who get a job or training for a short time but then go back on the dole. These people are not classified as long-term unemployed when in fact they have not been in continuous employment for years.

If unemployment remains that high, and 1.6 million additional people are added to the figures, it is possible that Britain will look at a whopping 4 million unemployed within the next few years.

This will be almost double the number of unemployed at the height of the Great Depression in Britain. Official statistics show that by the end of 1930, unemployment had more than doubled from 1 million to 2.5 million.

Ironically, the public service job losses are unnecessary if the ConDem regime had merely cut non-essential expenditure, as outlined earlier by the BNP.

Given that none of the Westminster parties have ever shown any interest in putting British people first, it is however unlikely that they would consider any cuts which did not directly harm our nation.

The distorted state of the modern British economy has been illustrated by the news that food prices climbed at their fastest rate for 15 months in October — while the big supermarket chains continued to show massive profits in the millions, and in Tesco’s case, more than a billion.

At the same time, British consumers face record unemployment rates, pay freezes, rising utility costs, cuts to services and tax increases.

According to the British Retail Consortium-Nielsen Shop Price Index, food prices rose by 4.4 percent in October, up from 4.0 percent in September. Last month’s rise was the highest annual increase since June of last year. 

Non-food items rose by 1.1 percent because of the increase in VAT during the year and the overall inflation rate for goods in shops increased by 2.2 percent.

In addition, the price of petrol has increased steeply, and Britain’s second biggest energy supplier, SSE, has announced that gas tariffs will increase by just under ten percent as from the beginning of December.

The misery to which consumers are being subjected is not however reflected in the ever-increasing profit margins of the ‘big four’ supermarkets, Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons.

Morrisons has just announced a “modest” 14 percent rise in underlying profits for the six months to the beginning of August, taking their profit to a cool £410 million.

Sainsbury’s is set to clock up a £660 million profit by the financial year-end, while Asda’s profits last year rose 53 percent to £798 million, and their figures are set to be even better this year.

Tesco however remains the king of profits. Figures show that for the six months to the end of August, that company’s profits rose 12.5 percent to stand at £1.6 billion.

The British Retail Consortium (BRC), which represents these major supermarkets, tried to cover up their obvious rampant greed which is the primary cause of the food inflation rate by actually claiming they were “protecting” consumers.

In an astonishing display of Orwellian doublespeak, the BRC said in an official statement that its members are “protecting customers against the worst effects of price rises in basics such as wheat, meat and cotton.”

According to the BRC, wheat is up by 47 percent in a year, corn by 61 percent, beef by 17 percent and pork by 16 percent.

While this might indeed by the case — and the endless causes of such increases would warrant a separate study of its own — the reality is that the supermarkets are not “protecting” the consumers but obviously passing them on.

This then, is the cause of the food price hikes and the increasing supermarket profit levels, and it is insulting to consumers for the BRC to pretend otherwise.

The BNP has no problem with private enterprise delivering healthy profits. This is the dynamo upon which job creation and true national wealth depends.

However, with a government that is determined to financially break this country and its people through “spending reviews,” bailouts to banksters, foreign aid, immigration, EU membership and a host of other disasters, it might be prudent of major companies to reign in or at least stabilise their profit margins in the long term interests of their customer base.

THE European Commission's recently published 'Fight Against Fraud' report has admitted that fraudulent use of European Union funds is costing European taxpayers £3.3 million a day.


 The worst cases were found in the implementation of the EU's cohesion policy which cost taxpayers £1.2billion in the last year.
The European Union's Cohesion Policy provides funding for Europe’s poorest regions and this takes up more than one third of the whole EU budget. So it's very depressing for those contributing that two-thirds of alleged EU fraud concerns six countries: Bulgaria, Romania, Greece, Italy, Poland and Spain.
In one case, thousands of pounds was paid out to livestock owners in Slovenia for 'non-existent' cattle while claims were also made for a lemon and orange grove orchard that had never been planted on the Italian island of Sicily.
With such bad publicity arising from similar fraud stories it is not surprising that the European Union has increased the money it is spending on transforming its news broadcasting service Euronews.
It claims the service will "improve the daily life of EU citizens" but sceptics dismiss the ploy as just the EU pushing out propaganda trying to achieve favourable news coverage using taxpayers' money.

At least £32.5 million out of last year’s “foreign aid” budget was spent on taxis, newspapers, staff bonuses and offices by the Department for International Development (DFID), new figures released by that office have revealed.

The DFID’s budget is the only one which will be increased by 37 percent over the next four years, as all other services to British people will be cut by 20 percent or more.

The 37 percent increase in foreign aid will add at least £4 billion to the DFID’s budget, at a cost of £500 per household in Britain.

According to a report, the DFID last year spent more £255,000 on taxi fares alone — in Britain. This spend has tripled in recent years, as staff somehow found the need to travel everywhere by taxi at the taxpayers’ expense.

The department has spent £19 million on “external private sector consultants” during the last year. Taxpayers will be glad to hear that this figure is down slightly from the previous two years, when the DFID “only” spent some £46 million on such “consultants.”

The newly released figures also show that since 2002, the DfID has spent £29 million on office refurbishments, including £11 million on its head office in London.

Incredibly, £98,000 was spent last year to redesign a new logo for UKaid in an attempt to copy the American version of USAid. Exacly why it took nearly £100,000 to redesign a logo was not said.

Taxpayers will be equally pleased to hear that DFID staff used £52,000 worth of stationery last year, and read £90,000 worth of newspapers.

Over the last six years, stationery and newspaper costs for the department have totalled £664,000.

DFID staff are some of the best paid civil servants around.And the official figures released by the department also reveal the favourable terms and conditions DfID staff enjoy.

With jobs currently being advertised on the DFID website such as “Governance Adviser - India,” “Governance Adviser (Public Financial Management Specialist) - India,” and “Global Poverty Action Fund Advisory Board members,” all of which conspicuously have the salary details absent, it is no surprise to learn that the cost of performance-related pay has more than doubled from £4.1 million to £10 million over the last six years.

It seems that the DFID is a rewarding career, as some 19 members of staff were handed bonuses of more than £30,000 last year, just for doing their jobs.

As if that was not enough, DFID workers clailmed expenses of more than £713,000 last year.

Side benefits to working for the DFID are also, to say the least, good.

Education allowances for staff children are so generous that last year 48 members of staff received a total of £1.3 million in private school fees, including leading independent schools Winchester, Marlborough, Roedean and Fettes College.

The foreign aid scandal must come to an end. The British National Party was the first party to call for its abolition, and the latest figures underline the urgency of cutting this outrageous waste even more.

British National Party chairman and Northwest MEP Nick Griffin cancelled all his appointments today to personally visit the scene of the massive gas explosion in Irlam, Salford, and to offer any assistance that they may need, reports organiser Gary Tumulty.

On seeing the devastation, Mr Griffin said “This is terrible. I have never seen anything like this in my life.

“My thoughts and best wishes are with those that have been hurt and those that have lost their homes and treasured possessions. It is a miracle that no-one was killed.”

Mr Griffin then went onto visit the emergency rest station, where those evacuated from the area were sent, and spoke to several residents about their experiences.

“I spoke to one lady whose house was seriously damaged by the blast. She told me of a father frantically digging in the rubble to rescue his children. She was in tears as she explained how the man dug with his bare hands to rescue his children from what remained of their home,” said Mr Griffin.

A local pub very close to the scene was also visited as it was also used as an emergency shelter for evacuees.

“We took some toys and board games to keep the children amused paid for by the community fund that MEPs are allocated. It is for good causes, and I can't think of a better cause than this one,” said Mr Griffin.

“Even in such difficult circumstances, and amid scenes of devastation, the 'British Spirit', and the 'never say die' attitude is what struck me in Irlam today,” Mr Griffin concluded.

Keith Fairhurst, deputy organiser added, I know Nick's visit to Irlam meant a lot to the residents today, He was there early, and didn't leave till late, unlike the other politicians whose absence was remarked upon by more than a few.

“It was interesting to hear that Labour's Hazel Blears made a late fleeting visit, no doubt because Mr Griffin had been there all day,” Mr Fairhurst said.

“Only Nick Griffin, and the British National Party truly care about our communities, and we will always be there when we are needed.”

Salford Labour apparatchiks moved in late last night to deny victims of the gas blast disaster any help provided by Nick Griffin MEP and the local British National Party organisation shortly after a hurried visit to the scene by Labour MP Hazel Blears, reports Radio Red, White and Blue.

Speaking on a breaking news report on the online radio station, Mr Griffin revealed how the ordinary staff and volunteers were ecstatic to receive all offers of help, and specifically asked for certain items.

By then it had become apparent that Ms Blears was nowhere to be seen, and after hurried Labour Party phone calls she finally arrived on the scene many hours after Mr Griffin got there.

Within half and hour of that, the staff and volunteers had been replaced by politically “reliable” Labour council staff, and suddenly the message was sent that no help at all was needed.

The victims of the gas blast, many still wearing slippers and nightgowns, were then suddenly transported away to a hotel for an overnight stay, far away from the help offered by the “evil” BNP.

Mr Griffin said on the Radio RWB interview that this was not such a bad thing as the move to a hotel would probably not have happened had the BNP not offered help in the first place.

Radio RWB coordinator John Walker, who conducted the interview, then remarked that it was sad that even at a time of such great misery, the Labour Party could not leave politics out of the situation.

 NOVEMBER 2010: The newly formed European External Action Service (European Union's own Foreign Office)  has ordered 150 bomb-proof limousines costing up to £33m for its new ambassadors - that's equivalent to £175,000 per car.


 The armoured vehicles will be deployed even every day business where there is little or no terrorist threat, as well as the European Union's missions to Afghanistan and Iraq.
It is is all part of the escalating costs of the EU foreign service with its 'Ambassador', Baroness Ashton, paid almost two and a half times more than the UK Foreign Secretary William Hague.
Th EU's diplomatic service is an expensive flag-waving exercise, drawing vital funds away from national budgets at a time when money is in short supply in Britain and across Europe.
The EEAS's annual budget is £5.8 billion - more than twice that of the UK's own Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

The environmental theory of human development — which holds that all humans are born blank slates and are shaped solely by their environments — has received a death blow with the news that scientists have discovered a genetic link to liberalism.

The announcement of the existence of a “liberal gene” which predisposes individuals to being liberal even in the face of the most incontrovertible evidence that their world view is wrong, was made in the reputable Cambridge University Press' Journal of Politics.

The lengthy study, based on research carried out on more than 2,000 test subjects (and which can be seen in full here), proves that genetics plays a substantial role in behaviour.

This means that people with certain genetic make-ups behave in a predetermined way, irrelevant of their place of birth.

The environmental “blank slate” world view has, from the time of the infamous Frankfurt School and the anthropological standard set by Karl Mannheim and Franz Boas at the beginning of the 20th Century, held that hereditary plays no part in predetermining human behaviour.

For decades, this leftist argument has been used to stifle any suggestion that individuals, both within and between racial groups, have different inherent abilities, intelligence levels or behavioural and psychological make-ups.

The advent of the science of genetics has however completely undermined this leftist delusion, and the discovery of a “liberal gene” must come as the most shocking of all developments to proponents of the now-disproven environmental theory.

According to the new study’s lead researcher, James H. Fowler of the University of California in San Diego, people with a variant of what is known as the “dopamine receptor gene” (called DRD4-7R) are more liberal in their political outlook than those people without it.

The gene, which has previously been associated with novelty-seeking behaviour, means that individuals carrying it are exposed “to a wider variety of social norms and lifestyles would make them more liberal than average,” his study paper said.

“Studies of animals indicate that DRD4 is involved in cortical excitability and behavioral sensitisation,” the paper said.

“These alterations in cortical arousal affect ‘‘approach traits’’ such as novelty seeking and sensation seeking, which in turn affect personality and behaviour.

“The relationship between openness to experience and ideology holds when ideology is measured either as support for ideological political parties or as ideological self-placement.”

The paper was extremely scientific and fair in its overview, stressing that it did not “claim that this evidence proves a causal relationship between DRD4 and political ideology. However, the association is consistent with a causal theory that we develop about the way genes and environments combine to affect political ideology.

“It is important to note that the 7R allele by itself does not make a person liberal and neither does simply having a greater number of friends as a teenager,” it stated.

“Rather, it is the crucial interaction of two factors—the genetic predisposition of having a greater number of 7R alleles and the environmental condition of having many friends in adolescence—that is associated with being more liberal.”

As a result, the study said, it can be concluded that “genetic effects take place in complex interaction with other genes and environments, and it is likely the combination of hundreds if not thousands of genes interacting with each other and with external stimuli that influence political attitudes and behaviour.

“In light of these and other findings, political scientists can no longer afford to view ideology as a strictly social construct, perfectly malleable and completely subject to historically changing circumstances.

“Finally, the results here suggest that, contrary to Mannheim’s assertion and the body of work that followed him, the social and institutional environment cannot entirely explain a person’s political attitudes and beliefs.

“We must take into account the role of genes and gene-environment interactions in the formation and maintenance of political beliefs,” the paper said in its conclusion.

Using evidence from psychology, anthropology, sociology and other scientific disciplines, this book shows that there are at least three biological races (subspecies) of man: Orientals (i.e., Mongoloids or Asians); Blacks (i.e., Negroids or Africans), and Whites (i.e., Caucasoids or Europeans).

David Cameron’s claim of a “victory” over the European Union’s increased budget spending plan is like King Pyrrhus of Epirus’s triumph over the Romans 2090 years ago: one more “victory” like that and we will be completely undone.

Mr Cameron has claimed “victory” after managing to persuade enough EU member states to reject an EU budget rise of 6 percent, and revert back to the 2.9 percent increase originally planned.

All that Mr Cameron has actually achieved therefore is to ensure that the EU budget increases by “only” 2.9 percent. In real terms this means an increase of “only” £3.14 billion as opposed to the £6.5 billion the EU Parliament voted for last week.

In addition, Mr Cameron failed to obtain any guarantee that there would no further increases, as he promised the British public only a week ago.

This sort of “triumph” is known as a Pyrrhic victory, a phrase derived from over 2000 years ago when the armies of King Pyrrhus of Epirus suffered irreplaceable casualties after defeating the Romans at Asculum in 279 BC.

After the battle, it is recorded, “Pyrrhus replied to one that gave him joy of his victory that one more such victory would utterly undo him.”

Instead of celebrating an utterly false “victory,” Mr Cameron should rather explain to the British public why they will now have to contribute around £8 billion next year towards the EU budget (which is what our contribution will now be after the “victorious” cut from 6 to 2.9 percent).

As the Telegraph columnist Simon Heffer so aptly put it in an article titled “David Cameron and the euro millions roll-over,” it is Mr Cameron’s “project to realign his party on the centre-Left, which means, in the end, he will always do what he is told by Brussels.

“There is absolutely no need for a 2.9 percent rise in our contributions to the EU. Europe is tottering financially,” Mr Heffer continued.

“The EU should be saving money, as most countries are, not finding ways to spend more of it.

“Dave was saying only a few days ago that he would seek a freeze or even a cut in our contribution. For him to roll over so quickly, and to agree to have the taxpayer’s pocket picked in this way, is predictable, but contemptible.

“What has happened in the past couple of days is an affirmation of business as usual: an exhibition of Britain’s devastating loss of sovereignty, and the continual willingness of those who should defend us to run up the white flag.

“It is no surprise to those of us who never believed Dave was a Conservative. Perhaps, though, it has helped open the eyes of those who foolishly thought he was,” Mr Heffer concluded.

The ConDem regime’s overt anti-white policies are beginning to take shape with the news that majority white British schools are to be deliberately underfunded to pay for immigrant-flooded nonwhite “disadvantaged schools” in the inner cities.

The new £2.5 billion per year "pupil premium" fund to boost “disadvantaged schools in inner city areas” (which means nonwhite) announced by ConDem Education Secretary Michael Gove will most certainly mean that funding to majority white British schools will be cut.

This confession was made by a shameless Mr Gove to the Independent newspaper in a review of the new pupil premium, which will give schools extra cash for every disadvantaged pupil they take in.

The project will see some secondary schools in “deprived inner cities” get as much as £1 million extra per year, but “some schools will suffer cuts to pay for it,” Mr Gove said

What Mr Gove means by “some schools” is, of course, those schools not in “deprived inner city areas.” In rural areas, the school population is almost entirely white, with for example, Devon having a 95 percent white British primary school make-up.

Research carried out on the scheme by Education Data Surveys, an Oxford-based consultancy, warned in a report that rural primary schools may be forced to close as a result of ministers pumping more money into disadvantaged areas.

“Small rural schools will not get much extra and, if they have falling pupil rolls and [have] a budget deficit, they will struggle. They may face closure,” the EDS report said.

The education funding crisis has been exacerbated because of the immigration invasion, with one in five state primary schools operating at capacity or with more pupils than it is meant to cater for.

Nearly three in 10 state secondaries are full or have pupils in excess of capacity.

The school attendance figures, released by the Department of Education, focussed on big cities such as London and Birmingham with high immigration.

In February this year, figures released by the Birmingham City Council revealed that only 39 percent of kids aged seven and under in that city where white.

A 2007 report from the Department for Children, Schools and

Families revealed that white children were the minority in many London schools, dropping to as little as 15 percent in Tower Hamlets, 12 percent in Newham and 7 percent in Brent.

Elsewhere in the country, other “disadvantaged” areas show similar patterns. In Bradford, only 53 percent of the primary school children were classed as white British in 2007, while in Blackburn and Manchester, less than 60 per cent of primary pupils were white British. In Leicester, 41 percent were white British.

These figures are already several years out of date, and the government has not updated them, obviously for fear of alerting the public to the steady progress of their plans to ethnically cleanse the British people.

The ConDem plans are becoming more obvious and clearer by the day. Will the British people accept being treated by second class milch cows for the treasonous establishment?

If they object, the British National Party stands ready to set right all these wrongs, before the utterly destroy this nation of ours.

A report jointly issued by the Equalities and Human Rights Commission (EHRC), the Local Government Association (LGA) and the Labour Party-aligned Institute of Public Policy Review (IPPR) which claimed that “only” 2 percent of social housing was occupied by foreigners has been exposed as a lie.

Accurate figures, produced by the Department Of Communities And Local Government’s 2008-09 English Housing Survey (EHS), show that foreign nationals now occupy 8.4 percent of the social housing stock and that amongst occupants aged 16-40, that figure rises to 12.6 percent.

The 2008 report issued by the EHRC and its political allies was put out in response to a British National Party campaign which demanded that British people be put first on the housing queue.

The EHRC report was widely carried in the controlled media in an attempt to make out that the BNP was somehow lying over the issue.

Now, however, the true figures have shown exactly who the real liars in the matter were — and are.

For all age groups, immigrants live in one in 12 of all “social houses” which are affordable rented homes provided by councils or housing associations.

There are 1.8 million people waiting for a council house and the average wait is now six years – unless you are, of course, an asylum seeker or recent “immigrant” with a large family.

Under those circumstances, you get promoted to the top of the list because of “need,” bypassing young British people who are simply trying to start out in life.

The entire system is designed to actively discriminate against British people, and also has the effect of economically crippling young people as well.

In a press statement, Sir Andrew Green, Chairman of Migrationwatch UK said "This finally destroys the myth that less than 2 percent of council and housing association tenants are recent immigrants.

“It further underlines the failure of the previous government to address the housing crisis despite encouraging massive levels of immigration,” he said.

Net immigration quadrupled to 237,000 a year between 1997 and 2007. In 2009 it was 196,000. Some three million immigrants have arrived since 1997 and a migrant still arrives almost every minute.

At this rate, a new home has to be built every six minutes for new migrants, placing an intolerable burden on the taxpayer, the infrastructure and the environment.

An article in the Daily Star newspaper, which has continuously run campaigns against the British National Party, commented in its coverage of the EHS report that the “issue of foreigners taking up places on council house waiting lists has been credited as one of the main reasons behind the success of BNP candidates at recent elections.”

Without admitting that the BNP was right all along, the Daily Star then went on to list some of the more prominent recent scandals in the social housing sector:

- Somali Abdi Nur, 42, and his seven children had been handed the keys to a £2.1 million house in west London.

- Single mum-of-seven Toorpakai Saeidi, from Afghanistan, costs the state £12,458 a month in housing benefit for her £1.2 million home in west

London.

- Thousands of East Europeans have jumped council house queues after arriving here. Last year 4,000 local authority homes were given to people from abroad.

- Several cases of British soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan have highlighted the problem further. One soldier, Craig Barker, 26, complained he was turned down for a council house because he had “moved away” from his home town Bracknell, Berks, to go to war.

I'm in my office in Brussels this morning and have just written the following letter to to the President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek (right).


 Dear Mr Buzek
During your campaign for the Presidency a year ago, I listened as a newly elected MEP to your promise to respect the rights and listen "even to the skeptics - because the skeptics remind us that we can do better". On the basis of that sentiment and pledge, I voted for you and was pleased when you won.
Despite our political differences, I regard your transition from a campaigner with an 'illegal' trade union under a Communist dictatorship to President of the European Parliament as one of the great political motifs of our time.
So I am writing to you now to ask you to keep your promise to stand for the rights of the skeptics - in particular those who are Non-Attached. In the year since my election I have watched with growing anger and disgust over the hypocrisy of those who lecture various non-European states over their lack of commitment to democracy, while imposing apartheid-level discrimination against the skeptical majority among the Non-Attached minority.
First, we were denied our clearly defined constitutional right to choose our own representative on the Council of Presidents, thereby being shut out from much of the information that all other groupings and their MEPs take for granted. 
Then we were foisted with a representative, who you have appointed to the Council to sit in a personal capacity, who is neither there to represent us nor to pass us back a shred of information. You have done me a particular injustice here, because Mrs. Dodds refused even to sit next to me in plenary. Could you please explain how can I be 'represented' in any way by an unelected bigot who treats me like a black man on a bus in Alabama in 1960?
Now we are told that the Non-Attached Members - and we alone - are no longer permitted to use our Budget 4000/400 Communications Allowance to maintain websites. 
The Internet is the most effective way for politicians of all persuasions to communicate directly with the public, so it is outrageous that a grouping which is clearly regarded as 'dissident' should be discriminated against. If this is not the intention of the new regulation, it is certainly the effect, so I therefore respectfully ask you to intervene to restore the status quo ante in order to prevent discrimination against the Non-Attached.
Further, there is the monstrous proposal - almost certainly illegal under the Human Rights legislation of which you are so proud - to force all MEPs to supply lists of the names and addresses of every person in our constituencies to whom we send our communications. Perhaps, coming now as you do from an acceptable 'pro-System' party, you are genuinely unable to grasp just how outrageous this is, so please permit me to use an analogy from your own past.
Please imagine for a moment that both the 'acceptable' Communist trade union in 1988 Poland, and Solidarity, had been offered state funding to send out letters about their work to people who registered as interested, but only on condition that each union provided the authorities with the names and addresses of everyone to whom they were writing.
Would that have been democratic? Would that have been fair on Solidarity? Would it have been compatible with the inalienable human right to privacy and freedom of conscience and association? Would members of the public have been more or less likely to exercise their human right to involvement with a union and political movement of their free choice if that union had been compelled to notify the State of their interest in a politically incorrect cause?
Mr. Buzek, for a man who has experienced at first hand the injustice of political discrimination and repression to sanction measures which create the same evils barely twenty years later is shocking hypocrisy. 
The Communists were at least open and honest about denying dissident opponents their rights; not even they were cynical enough to get elected on a pledge of rights for all, and to lecture others on the need to respect rights for all, while denying rights to those under their control. If you fail to act to restore and uphold the rights of this Parliament's dissidents, that will be what you are doing.
Finally, this is not fundamentally about the rights of the current crop of dissidents/demons sent to Parliament by electors who do not share the prevailing orthodoxy. If the European Union does not go the way of all previous attempts to create a pan-European government, this is about establishing a precedent for future generations of parliamentarians.
Who can tell that certain views now deemed wholly acceptable and mainstream may not one day in the future come to be regarded as offensive and beyond the Pale of proper political discourse? History is made up of such changes and, when the next one comes along, it could be MEPs with your views who are the ones that the majority think deserve to be second class citizens.
Fair rules and proper precedents that you could set now will serve as a shield and guard not just for the nationalist opposition for the rest of this term, but for every MEP sent here to represent minority views for as long as this Parliament exists. Or you could allow the present discrimination to persist, and so doom future dissidents to the same injustices. 
I know which legacy I would rather leave at the end of my term if I were President. But I am not. You are, Mr. Buzek, so the choice to do the right thing is yours, and yours alone. I look forward to hearing of your decision to stand and act against discrimination, and for justice.

 OCTOBER 2010: LAST month Nick Griffin was lobbied by constituents to oppose the "Gallo Report" which proposed enacting legislation to further restrict the freedom of Internet users throughout the European Union.

 One letter to the MEP from a scientist explained his opposition:
"The Internet was created as a tool for the unrestricted dissemination of information across a global network. As such it must rank as one of the towering achievements of mankind. Speaking as a scientist we have only just begun to understand the benefits that can be realised through the use of a collaborative information system such as this. In my own field I have seen research accelerate at an almost exponential rate as the number of new Internet users has grown.
How depressing it is then to be continually battling to save the Internet from those who wish to place tyrannical restrictions on law-abiding citizens purely to further enrich the top 1% of earners.
I am sure you are aware of George Orwell's essay "Politics and the English Language". It steels us against the danger of suspiciously vague language. The Gallo proposals are precisely the kind of threat Orwell was warning us about. After immersing myself in the language I was left feeling that just about anyone,law-abiding or not, could be considered a threat to copyright and thus worthy of punitive sanctions.
Whilst I accept that artists deserve the right to be paid for their work, I do not feel that the law should provide protection above this entitlement. If those who are seeking to protect the rights of artists cannot frame their demands clearly and/or propose sanctions proportionate to the "crime" they have no business infringing our right to make use of perhaps the greatest tool ever devised by man.
Please think very carefully about the unique and vast potential of the Internet and weigh such against the wealthy corporations seeking to damage its efficiency in search of bigger profits profit."
Responding on behalf of Nick Griffin, Constituency Office Manager Tina Wingfield wrote:
"In line with his opposition to the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA), Mr Griffin has concerns about the significant impact the Gallo Report could have on individuals’ rights to privacy and freedom of expression. Both the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement and the Gallo Report encourage repressive restrictions on internet users and excessive control mechanisms.
In light of this, Mr Griffin voted against the adoption of the Gallo resolution when it was put to the vote in the European Parliament. Unfortunately, the majority of MEPs did not, apparently, share Mr Griffin’s concerns for the rights of individuals, and the Report was approved.
Although the Gallo Report has now been recommended by the Euro Parliament to the Commission, there is a long way to go before the proposals in this, and the equally questionable ACTA, are translated into legislation.
Mr Griffin will be monitoring the progress of both initiatives and will use his vote wherever possible to prevent the European Union from endorsing the unacceptable levels of surveillance, censorship and sanctions that the implementation of these initiatives would generate."
