Ed Balls on Immigration - Government was wrong but don't blame me

Ed Balls - Government was wrong but don't blame me

There is no end to this queue
In a staggering admission of guilt and hypocrisy Labour leadership candidate and ex-Minister Ed Balls now accepts that the last Government made a mistake in not restricting immigration from Eastern Europe.

Balls has attempted to distance himself from the Government's decision to reject "transitional controls" for new entrants to the EU in 2004. This would have prevented migrants working in Britain for a number of years.  Balls now says "there has also been a direct impact on the wages, terms and conditions of too many people across our country – in communities ill-prepared to deal with the reality of globalisation, including the one I represent."

The President of the Solidarity Trade Union, Adam Walker(above) declared:-  "One reason Solidarity was formed was to help protect British workers from being undercut by migrant labour. This was as a direct result of Labour's policy of 'opening up' our borders without safeguards for British workers. The establishment Trade Unions refused to intervene for fear it would make Labour look bad and they put their Party affiliation before the interests of their members. This alone made it imperative that a Trade Union protecting the interests of British workers be formed.

Now one of the architects of Government policy has admitted their mistake. But is Balls just distancing himself from that disastrous policy just to further his leadership ambitions?

Adam added "Labour made a great deal out of 'collective responsibility' for cabinet decisions which means Ed Balls was directly responsible for wrecking British workers livelihoods, particularly amongst Labourers and tradesmen. It is a bit too late to say sorry. Whilst he and other Unions may like to focus upon the new Government's future errors we shan't forget the previous ones either".
